Overview

Comic Sands is a popular online publisher known for its coverage of trending stories across entertainment, politics, viral content, and internet culture. Part of The Social Edge Network (alongside George Takei’s official website), Comic Sands reaches a broad audience with humor and accessible reporting.

In 2024, Comic Sands partnered with RebelMouse for a full Blueprint redesign aimed at improving user experience, site performance, and revenue growth. The results were immediate: within 30 days of launch, the publisher saw a 79% increase in average daily revenue and 70% growth in users, with engagement metrics surging across all platforms.

Approach

As the UX/UI designer on the project, I worked closely with RebelMouse’s team to deliver a design transformation that aligned with Comic Sands’ playful identity while dramatically improving usability and performance.

Brand Identity: Designed a new logo to reflect Comic Sands’ fun and approachable tone.

Recirculation Modules: Implemented engaging features like Top Stories (in-body), The Top 5 (end-of-article), and Latest News (sidebar) to boost pageviews and time on site.

Responsive Design: Optimized layouts for both desktop and mobile, ensuring consistency and accessibility across devices.

Result

The redesign positioned Comic Sands for sustainable growth, with key metrics validating the impact:

+79% daily revenue in the first 30 days.

+76% sessions in the first 60 days.

+61% engagement time per user and +22% views per user in the first 30 days.
