Goalcast

Overview

Goalcast is a leading inspirational media platform that publishes short form video stories, quotes, and long form articles focused on personal growth, resilience, and motivation. Their content reaches millions of readers and viewers every month across web, YouTube, and social.

The project was a full editorial redesign of the Goalcast web experience, delivered while I was on the design team at RebelMouse. The goal was to modernize the brand, make content discovery faster, and give each editorial format (articles, quotes, and videos) its own dedicated layout built for engagement and shareability.

My Role

I was the UX/UI designer on the Goalcast project at RebelMouse. I owned the visual language, the new brand system, the responsive layouts for every editorial format, and the interaction model for navigation, search, and content discovery.

I worked directly with the RebelMouse engineering team to make sure every screen shipped clean, performant, and CMS ready, and collaborated with Goalcast’s editorial team to shape layouts around how they actually publish.

Results

  • Live. The new design replaced the old site on desktop and on phones.
  • Less scrolling. The phone home is 41% shorter.
  • A newsletter form on the home. The old home had none.

Design Decisions

Drag the bar across each frame to compare the home before the redesign, on the left, with the new one, on the right.

The first screen leads with one story.

The old home opened with a small photo between two columns of headlines, under a thin menu with the logo in the corner. The new one gives the lead story a large photo with its category, author and date, puts the logo at the center of the menu and adds Latest and Videos tabs beside the lead. Readers see the story of the day first and reach the videos without leaving the top.

Every section follows one pattern.

Each old section had its own title style and its own grid. In the new home, every section has the same title with a yellow mark, the same cards with category, author and date, and a See more button. Readers learn the pattern once, and editors fill any section the same way.

The newsletter got a place on the home.

The old home had no sign-up form. The new one has a yellow newsletter box beside the featured story. A reader who liked a story can subscribe without looking for the form.

Photos and titles stay together.

Inspiring Celebrities was a checkerboard, with each title in a box beside its photo, on alternating sides. Now it is a row of cards with the title under each photo. The eye follows one line, and the section takes less than half the height.

Key Contributions

  • Brand refresh. Modernized the Goalcast identity around a bold black, sun yellow, and deep teal palette. The result feels optimistic and confident without losing the editorial credibility the brand had built up.
  • Editorial layouts. Designed dedicated layouts for the three formats that drive Goalcast: standard articles, quote articles, and video articles. Each one is optimized for how that format is actually read and shared.
  • Homepage & section pages. Rebuilt the homepage and section pages around a modular content grid so editors can surface featured stories, recent publishes, and video hits without touching code.
  • Discovery experience. Redesigned the search page, hamburger menu, and author pages so readers can pivot between topic, format, and writer in one or two clicks.
  • Videos hub. Built a dedicated Videos section and video article layout that treats video as a first class content type, not a sidebar embed. This is critical for a brand whose growth engine is short form video.
  • Micro pages. Included the details that most redesigns skip: a friendly 404 page and a media / press content page that both feel consistent with the rest of the system.
  • Responsive by default. Every layout was designed mobile first alongside its desktop counterpart. Given Goalcast’s traffic mix, mobile is where most readers actually meet the brand.
  • CMS ready handoff. Delivered the design in a structure the RebelMouse platform could implement cleanly, keeping publishing fast for the Goalcast editorial team.
